Motor Vehicle Accident at Hamilton Street and Puritan Avenue

Worcester, MA (December 2, 2010) - On Sunday, November 28, 2010 at approximately 2:36 AM Worcester Police responded to a motor vehicle accident that involved two vehicles at the intersection of Puritan Avenue and Hamilton Street. One of the operators was an off duty Worcester Police Officer.

According to preliminary investigative reports, the off duty officer was operating his 2007 Lincoln SUV eastbound on Hamilton Street when a 2005 Cadillac passenger vehicle traveling north on Puritan Avenue entered the eastbound lane of Hamilton Street and collided with the Lincoln. The operator of the Cadillac is a 20 year old female from Shirley, MA.

The 20 year old female operator was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed as critical. The officer was treated for minor injuries at the scene by Worcester EMS and released.

Worcester police officers from the Operations Division responded to the accident scene. An Operations Lieutenant took command of the accident, began a preliminary investigation and took steps to protect the accident scene. The off duty officer was interviewed at the scene by the Operations Lieutenant. After being medically cleared by Worcester EMS personnel he was released from the scene. A patrol supervisor requested the assistance of the Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.

The accident reconstruction supervisor and team arrived on the scene at approximately 3:10 AM, approximately 45 minutes after the accident was reported, and began their investigation. At this time there have been no citations issued to either operator. Search warrants have been executed and the investigation is ongoing.

There is no additional information to be released at this time.
