Worcester, MA (November, 2012) - On Thursday, November 01, 2012 at 1:30 AM Worcester Police responded to 16 Kelley Square (The Hotel Vernon Bar) for a report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers observed a large crowd of approximately 30 people arguing. When officers exited their cruisers they found a 33-year-old male victim suffering from two stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police were directed across the street from the scene to the Gulf Gas Station parking lot. A male, later indentified as Matthew Pardee, was arguing with several people in front of the gas station. Pardee began to yell obscenities and was flailing his arms. He ignored all commands from officers and refused to cooperate. Another man at the scene told police that Pardee had punched him earlier in the evening during a fight at the Hotel Vernon. Matthew Pardee, 28, of 4 Kosta Street, Apartment 2, Worcester was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, Affray, Assault and Battery and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (knife).
Officers continued to preserve the crime scene at the Hotel Vernon and interviewed several witnesses. At the time of the fight, traffic in the area was held up due to the crowd that gathered around the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that victim was stabbed while attempting to break up the fight.
As a result of the investigation, police learned that Angelo Zona was responsible for stabbing the victim. Police locate Zona along with Dennis Daurizio, who was also involved in the fight.
Angelo Zona, 23, of 37 Rockway Road, Auburn was charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (knife) , Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace and Affray.
Dennis Daurizio, 22, of 41 Merrimack Street, Apartment 3, Worcester was charged with Affray.
All three individuals will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse today.
