Man Shot on Mendon Street

Worcester, MA (August 25, 2010) - On Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at approximately 8:06 PM Worcester Police responded to outside 40 Mendon Street for a report of shots fired. Upon the officers' arrival they observed a 21 year old Worcester man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was immediately transported to UMass Hospital (university campus) and taken into emergency surgery; his condition at this time is serious.

According to witnesses at the scene, they observed the victim walking down Aetna Street, approach Mendon when a male in a vehicle approached. A verbal argument was heard between the two and then at some point the suspect brandished a handgun and shot the victim once in the abdomen. The suspect then drove up Aetna Street at a high rate of speed.

The Worcester Police Detective Bureau is now investigating this incident while the Crime Scene Unit is processing the crime scene.

This investigation is in its early stages; there is no motive established at this time. Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing witnesses and processing evidence as they attempt to cultivate suspect information.
