Worcester, MA (June 21, 2011) - On Monday, June 20, 2011 at approximately 12:53 PM Worcester Police received a call from a passerby that there was a male lying on an embankment near Beaver Brook and that his upper half was submerged in the water and he appeared deceased. Worcester Police arrived soon after and discovered the male in the brook, across from 142 Beaver Brook Parkway. The Male was pronounced deceased by responding paramedics. Investigators sealed off the immediate area and processed the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that there are no signs of foul play and no readily apparent cause of death. The victim was transported to UMass Medical Center (university campus) where an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. The exact cause of death is pending the results of this autopsy.
Investigators are working on confirming his identity. Once that confirmation is made family members will then be notified. The victim is a white male, approximately mid 50s, thin build. He was discovered with the upper half of his body in approximately 6 inches of water while the lower half was up on the embankment.
Detectives have canvassed the area and interviewed local residents to see if they had seen or have heard anything unusual. It appears that the victim had not been in that location for too long. This investigation is ongoing; additional updates will follow as they become available.
