Worcester, MA (June 11, 2013) - On Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at approximately 2:00 AM, Worcester Police responded to Hollywood Street for a male reported to be breaking into a motor vehicle. Arriving officers met with a female victim at the intersection of May and Hollywood Streets. The woman informed the officers that she noticed that a window to her vehicle was smashed out. When she and a friend went to investigate they observed a white male wearing a black sweater and grey sweat pants inside the vehicle.
The male suspect quickly exited the vehicle and ran off. The victim and her friend chased after the suspect until he ran inside a building located at 41 May Street.
Officers at the scene inspected the vehicle and observed the rear window smashed out. Inside the vehicle were several items strewn about. Officers also observed blood on the center console. One of the suspect’s sneakers was located inside the vehicle as well.
Officers went to 41 May Street, a rooming house, to look for the suspect. Police were allowed in the building and began to look in the common areas for the suspect. Eventually a male was located in a room that a person occupied and had allowed police to search. This male was wearing a black sweater and grey sweat pants. The male was not wearing shoes and was completely soaking wet (raining heavy at the time). He also had a cut on his hand and was bleeding.
Police escorted the male outside of the building so the victim and the witness could identify him. The suspect was identified as the same male seen inside the vehicle.
At this time the suspect was identified as 32-year-old Matthew Pellerin of 41 May Street, Worcester. Mr. Pellerin was placed under arrest and charged with Breaking and Entering in a Motor Vehicle with the Intent to Commit a Felony.
Mr. Pellerin will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
