Worcester, MA (August 24, 2010) - On Monday, August 23, 2010 at approximately 12:20 PM Worcester Police arrested Francisco Ortiz, 19 years old of 657 Main Street, Worcester on an active arrest warrant with regard to the large fight on Ethan Allen Street on Thursday, August 19, 2010.

On Thursday, several officers responded to a call of a large fight involving approximately 20 males in which 2 to 3 shots were fired. Witnesses also stated that a meat cleaver and a steak knife were also introduced in the fight. As officers arrived the fight had ended and the crowd had mostly dispersed. Approximately one hour later Worcester Police received a call that an 18 year old male had entered UMass hospital with a stab wound to the chest. The victim is in stable condition.

Worcester Police Detectives have been working the case and have interviewed numerous people involved and who had witnessed the incident. During the course of the investigation information was provided to establish probable cause on Mr. Ortiz. At this time Ortiz has been identified as the male who had fired the gun during the fight. As a result a warrant was issued and he was charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, Possession of Ammunition Without a License, Armed Assault With Intent to Murder and Assault With a Dangerous Weapon.

Mr. Ortiz will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Tuesday, August 23, 2010.
