Worcester, MA (July 13, 2017) – On July 13, 2017 at about 10:50 AM, police were called to the area of Salisbury at Whitman Rd for a report of a house break in progress. When officers arrived, they spoke to the complainant, who was home alone with a small baby. She said that a male came to the front door and was aggressively pounding on it. When she did not answer, he went around the rear of the house to the back deck and smashed the glass door with a rock. When he entered the house, she began screaming, and he fled. Several police cars came to the area and searched for the male.
Approximately twenty-eight minutes after the initial call, police were still in the area searching for the suspect. They received a call for an alarm on Academy Road, which is right down the street from the initial call. Several officers responded almost immediately, and saw that a basement window had been smashed. They observed a male, later identified as Stephen Shaw, fifty-seven-years-old of 25 Queen St, in the rear of the property. When he saw police, he took off running.
Police chased Mr. Shaw through back yards in the area. They briefly lost sight of him, and he was found hiding under a pine tree in the rear of an Academy St home. Mr. Shaw was detained and identified as the male who entered the house on Salisbury St. He was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony, two counts of Defacement of Property, and one count of Attempting to Commit a Crime (Breaking and Entering). He will be arraigned tomorrow in Worcester District Court.
