Worcester, MA (March 30, 2017) - On Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at approximately 3:00 AM, Worcester Police responded to 353 Grafton Street, the Honey Farms market, for a report of an unarmed robbery. Upon the officers arrival they met with the store clerk. According to the clerk, a white male, wearing a dark colored jacket with a hood pulled up over his head, entered the store and asked the clerk where the bottled water was located. The male approached the counter with his purchase and handed the clerk a torn dollar bill. The clerk opened the cash register and was attempting to tape the bill together when the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed money that was in the drawer. The clerk attempted to close the drawer but the suspect managed to run off with an undisclosed amount of money.
This incident was forwarded to the Detective Bureau for further investigation. A detective interviewed the clerk and obtained a copy of the surveillance video that captured the incident. Still images were produced from the video and sent out to all Worcester Police officers via department email. Other law enforcement agencies were sent copies as well. The detective received several responses that identified Jonathan Woodman as the suspect. Mr. Woodman is a 32-year-old Worcester resident with a last known address of 25 Queen Street.
Based on the facts gathered during the incident, as well as the several identifications made from police officers not related to the case, a request for an arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Woodman for unarmed robbery.
On Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at approximately 8:45 PM, A Worcester Police officer was dispatched to 25 Queen Street for a disorderly person. Upon the officers arrival he encountered Mr. Woodman. The officer had read on the department journal that Mr. Woodman was a suspect in the unarmed robbery and that a warrant had been applied for his arrest.
The officer approached Mr. Woodman and placed him under arrest without incident. Mr. Woodman will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
