Homeowner Fights Intruder and Holds Him for Police

Worcester, MA (May 31, 2011) - On Saturday, May 28, 2011 at approximately 4:30 AM Worcester Police responded to a Richmond Avenue home for a report of a breaking and entering call which was in progress. Responding officers were informed that the homeowner was calling and stated that their family was awoken to the sounds of someone in their home.

Within minutes officers arrived at the scene. Officer could hear the 39 year old male homeowner fighting with the intruder in the rear bedroom. Officers immediately placed the male under arrest. He was identified as Dominique Jackson, 22 years old 66 May Street, Worcester. Other officers quickly searched the house for other possible suspects and secured the home. Other occupants of the home, including an infant, were unharmed. There were no other suspects.

Officers spoke with the male homeowner. He stated that he and his family were asleep on the second floor when they were awoken to the hallway light flickering on and off and then they heard footsteps coming up the stairs. The homeowner got out of his bed and charged towards the hallway where he encountered Mr. Jackson. Upon Mr. Jackson seeing the homeowner charge after him he attempted to flee. The homeowner tackled Jackson at the bottom of the stairs and they began to fight. Mr. Jackson began to punch the homeowner in the face but the homeowner was able to hold onto Jackson until police arrived.

Mr. Jackson was charged with Armed Burglary and Assault and Battery; he was transported to the police station without incident. The homeowner suffered a contusion to his left eye but refused medical attention. Mr. Jackson will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Tuesday, May 31, 2011.
