Worcester, MA (April 4, 2017) - On Tuesday, March 4, 2017 at approximately 2:23 PM, Worcester Police Responded to 1 Merrick Street for a report of a man with a gun that had just kicked in a door. Responding officers were informed that a group of people within the dwelling had the suspect restrained and disarmed.
Arriving officers met with a male that was waiting outside the building. The male told police that the suspect was inside restrained. Officers could hear a lot of screaming and yelling coming from inside. Officers entered the rooming house and observed several people holding down a male, later identified as Janeases Delay, 20-years-old of 501 Plantation Street, Worcester. As a precautionary measure, officers placed Mr. Delay in handcuffs. Officers observed that Mr. Delay had on gloves and had his hood pulled up over his head and around his face. Officers also observed on the floor a knife and what appeared to be a handgun. These items were nearby Mr. Delay.
At this time a male exited his room and approached the officers. The man informed the officers that he was in his room napping when suddenly his door was kicked open. The victim stated that the suspect charged into his room holding what appeared to be a gun. The suspect was demanding his credit cards. The suspect grabbed a pile of paperwork that he had on his end table and fled out the room. The suspect encountered a group of people in the hallway that went after him. Mr. Delay pointed the weapon at a female resident and then re-entered the victim’s room. After a brief moment the suspect came back out and charged at the group. Mr. Delay began to pistol whip a male over the head. At this time several people came to the aid of the man. The group disarmed Mr. Delay and forced him to the ground and waited for police to arrive.
The weapon was inspected and it was determined that it was a pellet gun.
Mr. Delay was charged with Home Invasion, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
Mr. Delay will be arraigned on Tuesday, March 4, 2017 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
