Hit and Run Fatal Car Accident at Burncoat and Clark Streets

Worcester, MA (April 27, 2010) - On April 26, 2010 at 6:18 PM Worcester Police responded to the intersection of Burncoat, Clark and Dorothy Streets for a reported serious car accident. Upon the officers arrival they observed a 2004 Lincoln Town car with extensive damage to the driver's side. The single occupant was a 72 year old male who was trapped inside the vehicle. The victim was subsequently removed from the vehicle and transported to U-Mass Hospital (university campus) were he was pronounced dead at 7:27 PM. The victim is identified as Robert Quist, a long time Worcester resident.

According to preliminary police reports, Worcester Police Traffic Bureau arrived at the scene and determined that the victim's vehicle was traveling east on Dorothy, approaching Burncoat Street when it was struck in the driver's side by a 2006 Ford commercial utility vehicle. The truck was traveling south on Burncoat Street when the impact occurred. According to witnesses, the truck had the red light while Mr. Quist was proceeding into the intersection with the green light. After the impact the commercial vehicle backed up from the town car and proceeded to drive away, heading south on Burncoat Street.

On Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at approximately 6:23 AM a resident of Dixon Avenue called the Worcester Police Department to report that a suspicious truck was parked in front of their home. This truck matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The police impounded the vehicle and it was towed back to the station. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle.

Worcester Police Traffic officers continue to conducted interviews. This investigation is ongoing.
