Worcester, MA (June 22, 2017) – The Semi-Annual Goods for Guns Buyback Program will be held Saturday June 24.
The event will take place from 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 90 Holden St, Worcester.
This program is a collaborative effort of the Worcester Police Department, UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester Department of Public Health, Worcester District Medical Society, the Injury-Free Coalition for Kids of Worcester, and the office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. This is an important collaboration in order to seize the opportunity to take guns off the streets.
Along with this program, The Mass Medical Society along with AG Maura Healey has issued a set of information for physicians about how and why to talk to patients about gun ownership/ responsibility.
Turn in your operable gun and receive gift certificates to local supermarkets. There is a limit of four guns per person.
$75 for a semi-automatic weapon (long or short) $50 for a handgun, $25 for a rifle.
The program is anonymous and also features trigger locks for those with unsecured weapons left in their homes.
IMPORTANT: All guns must be brought to the event unloaded and wrapped in a plain brown paper or plastic bag.
The goal of Goods for Guns is to:
-Remove unwanted guns from homes
-Educate the community about the importance of safe gun storage and provide the community with safety information
-Raise awareness about firearm injuries
