Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Worcester, MA (March 8, 2010) - On March 7, 2010 at approximately 2:54 PM Worcester Police responded to 1442 Grafton Street for a report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a trailer truck. The Worcester Police Traffic Reconstruction Team and the Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit responded as well as the Worcester Fire Department and U-Mass paramedics. Upon the officers arrival they observed the operator of the motorcycle lying on the ground with serious injuries that he received when he struck the front end of the trailer truck. The victim was immediately transported to U-Mass where he was pronounced deceased at 3:22 PM.

According to the investigation, the 1985 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on Grafton Street when it veered onto the north bound lane and struck the 2001 Freightliner head on. According to witnesses the operator of the motorcycle appeared to be experiencing some unknown mechanical problem as he was looking down at the engine on the left side of his bike while traveling southbound which then caused him to veer over the double line and onto the opposite travel lane.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Gerald Gadbois, 67 years old of Worcester. The operator of the trailer truck is Jimmy Dyal, 38 years old of Florida. Mr. Dyal was unhurt, the trailer truck received substantial damage to the front left corner, this vehicle was towed away from the scene.

This accident continues to be investigated. There is no additional information to be released at this time.
