Worcester, MA (December 9, 2009) - A four month drug investigation was launched by the Worcester Police Gang Unit, Worcester Police Vice Squad and the Massachusetts State Police CPAC Unit, working out of District Attorney Joseph Early' office, to combat open air drug dealing in the Main South area of the City. This investigation is a direct result of information provided at neighborhood crime watch meetings with the police. At these meetings, community members expressed concern about the ongoing problem that some neighborhoods experience with plain view drug dealing. As a result of this investigation, 17 people were arrested today on warrants relating to selling drugs to undercover police officers. 5 separate sting operations were conducted over the last several months where subjects were identified after selling to the undercover officers. Warrants were then applied for and served today. The 17 arrests were in addition to 15 prior distribution arrests made before today's operation. 3 other individuals were also arrested today for other offenses. There are 12 other individuals with warrants pending for distribution of various drugs. In total 44 individuals will end up being charged with distribution related offenses.
