Worcester, MA (January 29, 2010) - On Thursday, January 28, 2010 at approximately 6:40 PM Worcester Police responded to 45 Burncoat Street with regard to a motor vehicle accident. Upon the officers arrival they met with a 24 year old female victim who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the left eye. The victim was conscious and alert and talking to paramedics. The victim was transported to UMass hospital (medical school) and is listed in stable condition.
According to the victim she was outside of 317 Burncoat Street standing next to a 25 year old male relative when she was shown a gun. The gun went off striking her in the left eye. The relative immediately placed her into his motor vehicle and was attempting to drive her to a nearby hospital when he struck a tow truck in the area of 45 Burncoat Street. The tow truck driver received minor injuries while the male relative operating his motor vehicle received minor injuries. Both men were treated for those injuries at a nearby hospital.
Detectives executed a search warrant for the 317 Burncoat Street apartment. During the search, detectives discovered marijuana with an approximate weight of one pound and an amount of cocaine consistent with distribution along with additional ammunition for a firearm. The weapon believed to have been used is a .22 cal semi-automatic handgun which was located inside the suspect motor vehicle. This weapon was reported stolen from Scranton, Pennsylvania on 07/05/2003.
After he was released from the hospital, the male relative was transported back to the police station and spoke with detectives. After the interview concluded the suspect was placed under arrest. The suspect has been identified as Lance Moquin, 25 years old of 317 Burncoat Street, Worcester. He is allegedly the brother of the victim. Mr. Moquin was charged with Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without a License to Carry, Possession of Ammunition without a FID. Additional charges of Possession of Class D (Marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Class B (Cocaine) with the intent to Distribute will be taken out against Mr. Moquin. He will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Friday, January 29, 2010.
The investigation is ongoing; there is no additional information to be released at this time.
