Worcester, MA (February 4, 2010) - On February 3, 2010 at approximately 11:55 PM Worcester Police responded to a Jefferson Street apartment for a break in progress call. Upon the officers arrival they met with the 22 year old male resident. According to the victim, he was in his kitchen when suddenly a male forced his way through the kitchen door and forced his way into the apartment. The door jamb was smashed when the door was forced open. A fight ensued and during this altercation the victim was able to take possession of a sledge hammer which was nearby. The suspect fled out of the apartment when he saw the victim with the hammer.
The victim described the suspect as 5'10", white male, wearing a blue jacket with yellow spots, jeans, and work boots. Several police officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect which produced negative results. The victim was not hurt in this altercation. It was unclear as to why the victim was targeted.
On February 4, 2010 at approximately 1:30 AM Officer Michael Foley was on routine patrol in Kelly Square when he was stopped by a citizen. This citizen stated that he just chased a male out of his third floor closed in porch of his house located on Water Street. The citizen stated that the suspect was trying to steal his bicycle and some of his tools.
According to the 37 year old male victim, he heard noises coming from the enclosed porch; he then went out to see what was going on when he confronted the suspect. At this time the suspect tried to push and punch the victim but missed. The victim physically pushed the suspect out of the enclosed rear porch and then gave chase to the suspect up Providence Street until he lost sight of the suspect.
This victim described the male suspect as a white male, wearing a blue jacket with orange stains on the sleeves and a blue hooded sweatshirt under the jacket.
Several officers arrived at the scene and began a search for the suspect. Within several minutes officers stopped a male who fit the description of the suspect in front of 93 Harrison Street. At this time the Water Street victim as well as the Jefferson Street victim was transported to 93 Harrison Street and both victims were able to positively identify the suspect as the one who had entered their property.
At this time the suspect, identified as John M. Donohue, 42 years old of 54 Coral Street was placed under arrest for one count of Armed Burglary and one count of Unarmed Burglary. Mr. Donohue was transported to the police station without incident.
