Worcester, MA (December 4, 2017) - On December 4th at about 6:40 AM, Worcester Police were dispatched to the area of 495 Shrewsbury St for a report of a motor vehicle that struck a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2017 Jeep Wrangler and its operator. They also observed the pedestrian, a sixty-one-year-old Worcester man, on the ground. The victim suffered very serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and began their investigation. The preliminary investigation shows that the Jeep Wrangler was headed North on Shrewsbury Street. At the same time, the pedestrian was crossing Shrewsbury Street, heading west toward Belmont Street, when he was struck in the far left travel lane. The victim was thrown a significant distance from the impact of the collision.
The Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and took pictures while investigators spoke with witnesses and canvassed for video. The investigation is ongoing.
