Worcester, MA (September 23, 2011) - Four Men were arrested with regard to the Juan Melendez homicide which occurred on Sunday morning, September 18, 2011. On that day, at 3:04 AM, Worcester Police responded to 74 Rodney Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident, arriving officers observed a vehicle smashed into a parked truck. As officers approached the vehicle they discovered that Mr. Melendez had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, he was transported to U-Mass Hospital (university campus) and died shortly after his arrival.
Detectives have been working on this case since responding to that call. Investigators were able to indentify a group of males who were responsible for the shooting and establish probable cause to apprehend and arrest them. Worcester Police Detectives along with members of the Worcester Police Gang Unit searched for the suspects throughout the city Thursday evening and were able to locate and arrest the following:
The four men are all charged with Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Attempting to Commit a Crime and Conspiracy. Mr. Maisonet was additionally charged with Possession of Class D with the Intent to Distribute.
The men will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Friday, September 23, 2011. This investigation is ongoing.
