Worcester, MA (June 12, 2012) - On Monday, June 11, 2012 at approximately 11:00 AM members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad were conducting undercover surveillance on Stockton Street next to Vernon Park for the purpose of monitoring drug activity. Officers working this undercover operation are familiar with the drug activity within the park area.
During the surveillance officers observed a Toyota Camry with a male operator and a female passenger drive onto Stockton Street and park nearby the officers. The two sat in the car for about ten minutes without exiting the car. Officers then observed a Honda Odyssey drive onto Stockton Street and stop in front of the Toyota. The female passenger was seen getting out of the Toyota and enter the Honda. The Honda drove away at a very slow rate of speed with the Toyota following directly behind it. The vehicle travelled approximately 200 feet and then stop. The female passenger, later identified as Megan Riana, 26 years old of 355 Lancaster Street, Leominster, MA re-entered the Toyota driven by Timothy Cairney, 24 years old of 212 Alana Drive, Northbridge, MA. The Honda drove off while the Toyota immediately pulled over to the curbside and parked.
Officers who observed the actions of the two vehicles believed that they had just witnessed a drug transaction take place. At this time some of the officers approached the parked Toyota while others followed the Honda. The Honda was eventually stopped by Southbridge and Madison Streets.
A search of the Toyota revealed that Ms. Riani was in possession of 17 half gram packages of heroin. Ms. Riani and Mr. Cairney were placed under arrest. Ms. Riani was charged with Possession of Class A with the Intent to Distribute, Distribution of Class A Substance, a Drug Violation within 100’ of a park, Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance laws and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Cairney was charged with Possession of Class A Substance and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Laws.
The occupants of the Honda, Mr. Juan Camilo, 37 years old of 20 Fairfax Road, Worcester and Mr. Vincente Ortiz, 30 years old of 63 Dewey Street, Worcester were also placed under arrest. Mr. Camilo and Mr. Ortiz were both charged with Possession of Class A with the Intent to Distribute, Distribution of Class A Substance, a Drug Violation within 100 feet of a Park and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance laws.
