Worcester, MA (September 9, 2010) - On Sunday, September 12, 2010 at approximately 10:47 PM Worcester Police responded to the area of 50 Murray Avenue for a report of shots fired. As officers were responding to the scene they received a call from UMass (Memorial) Hospital that a male had just arrived with a gunshot wound to the lower left leg, just above the ankle.
While officers responded to the scene other officers responded to the hospital and interviewed the victim. According to the victim, he was walking in the area of 697 Main Street when he observed several males arguing on the opposite side of the street. During the argument he heard a gunshot and then felt pain in his lower leg. The victim then ran off and called family members to transport him to the hospital; a cousin drove the victim to the emergency room. His injuries are non-life threatening.
Worcester Police Detectives responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim. At this time a crime scene was located on Main Street, in between Charlton and Sycamore Streets. The Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit responded and processed that area.
At this time there is limited information as to the circumstances which lead up to the shooting. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and working on the identity of the shooter.
