Worcester, MA (October 30, 2017)- On Saturday, October 28, 2017, at approximately 12:50 AM, Worcester police responded to an Albert Street apartment for a report of a male bleeding. Upon the officers arrival they met with a 33-year-old victim that was bleeding from a puncture wound to his chest. The victim was conscious and alert. The victim informed the officers that he was walking near Illinois Street and Grand Street when he was approached by two young males. One of the males said something to the victim but he could not understand him. The victim does not speak English.
The victim attempted to walk away from the two youths when one of them struck him in the chest. The force of this act caused the victim to fall to the ground. While on the ground the same suspect began to kick him.
At first the victim thought that he was punched in the chest but soon realized that he had been stabbed. The victim ran home and called an ambulance. Worcester EMS and police arrived. Worcester EMS treated the victim at the scene and then transported him to a nearby hospital with what was considered a serious stab wound.
The suspect that stabbed the victim was described as a black male, young, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a thin build. The second suspect was described as a young male, light complexion, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Both descriptions were broadcasted citywide. Several officers checked the immediate area with negative results.
A short time later two males fitting the description was located walking in the area of Canterbury and Cambridge Streets. Both males were identified, one is 19-years old while the other is 13-years-old.
Several officers responded and separated the two. Both males provided conflicting stories when questioned about where they were and what they were doing. At this time both males were asked to come to police headquarters and provide statements to investigators.
WPD detectives interviewed the 19-year-old suspect but did not speak with the 13-year-old until a parent or guardian could be located. Investigators went to the juvenile’s home and could not make contact with the parent. Investigators also attempted to call but that provided negative results.
In the meantime, investigators were told by hospital personnel that the victim suffered a potential life threatening injury but that he is expected to survive. The stab wound was dangerously close to the victim’s heart.
Based on evidence collected at the scene, as well as information obtained by the victim and witnesses, investigators established enough information to charge the 13-year-old with 2 counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, (knife & shod foot) and Armed Assault with Intent to Murder.
The juvenile will be arraigned at a date yet to be determined.
