Worcester, MA (March 27, 2013) - On Wednesday, March 27, 2013 members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad obtained a search warrant for the "Indian Food and Convenience Store," located at 159 Belmont Street. The warrant was the result of an investigation in which information was received by informants, undercover purchases and citizen complaints of drug activity within the store. This investigation revealed that marijuana was being sold inside the convenient store during business hours.
Vice Officers entered the store and observed a male and female working within. The male and female were the intended targets of the search warrant. The female was identified as Desiree Ortiz, 41-years-old of 17 Federal Street, Worcester and Ravinder Maan, 35 years-old of 405 Main Street, Fitchburg.
The couple was immediately placed under arrest for the distribution of marijuana. The couple was shown a copy of the warrant and had their Miranda Rights read to them. At this time Mr. Maan cooperated with the officers and provided locations where the marijuana was located.
Under the front counter, police located a box containing 50 zip lock bags of marijuana. In the same area, police located two bottles containing 43 Percocet pills. Police also located several larger bags of loose marijuana (approximately ½ pound), packaging materials, digital scales, cell phones and $827 in cash.
Mr. Mann was charged with Possession of Class D Substance with the Intent to Distribute, Trafficking in Class A Substance (14-27 grams) and a Drug Violation within 1,000’ of a School (Belmont Street Community School).
Ms. Ortiz was charged with Possession of Class D with the Intent to Distribute, Distribution of Class D Substance, Trafficking in Class A Substance (14-27 grams), Distribution of Class D Substance and a Drug Violation within 1,000’ of a School (Belmont Street Community School).
Mr. Mann and Ms. Ortiz are being held on $10,040 cash bail. They will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Thursday, March 28, 2013.
