Worcester, MA (March 19, 2017)- On Sunday, March 19, 2017 at approximately 7:35 PM, Worcester Police responded to a Birch Street address for a report of a male walking down the street holding a machete. Arriving officers were speaking with the person that had called police when they received another call that there were two males on nearby Oliver Street suffering from stab wounds. Prior to responding to Oliver Street the officers were informed by the Birch Street witness that the male with the machete was walking down the street hacking at trees and bushes. The witnesses provided a description of the suspect.
Officers cleared Birch Street and responded to Oliver Street. Other responding police units began to search the immediate area for the suspect with the machete. The search produced negative results.
Officers on Oliver Street observed two males, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, being treated by Worcester EMS at the scene prior to being transported to a local hospital. It is believed that the injuries are non-threating. The exact injuries received and their current condition is unknown at this time.
Officers on Oliver Street were informed by police dispatchers that a 26-year-old male arrived at the emergency room suffering from a head injury caused by a blunt object. Officers responded to the emergency room and spoke with the male. The male was uncooperative with the officers but it is believed that his injuries were the result of an altercation on Oliver Street.
The officers were told by witnesses on Oliver Street that the two stabbing victim’s were outside when they were allegedly accosted by a group of males that attempted to rob them of their cell phones. The alleged robbery was unsuccessful. During the altercation they were stabbed. After the incident the two victims entered the apartment yelling that they were stabbed.
Worcester Detectives arrived at the scene along with members of the Crime Scene Unit. Witnesses were interviewed while evidence was collected.
This investigation is in the early stages. Detectives are working on establishing the circumstances leading up to the altercation.
