Suspect for Benefit Street Shooting Located and Arrested

Worcester, MA (January 24, 2012) - On Monday, January 23, 2012 Worcester Detectives were informed by Lowell Police that they had located and arrested Benefit Street shooting suspect Saravy Sok. At approximately 10:30 PM Worcester Police Detectives traveled to Lowell Police Department to pick up Mr. Sok, 22 years old of 10 Lilly Street, Lowell, MA. Mr. Sok’s arrest was the result of an extensive investigation following the shooting incident on Sunday January 22, 2012. In that incident, Sok and a 28 year old male victim engaged in a physical altercation at a house party on Benefit Street. During the fight Sok shot the victim three times; once in the shoulder and twice in the right leg. The victim went to the hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Lowell Police located Mr. Sok and arrested him on an outstanding arrest warrant that the Worcester Police had in effect for charges of Assault with Intent to Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Firearm without a License to Carry and Possession of Ammunition without an FID.

Mr. Sok was transported back to Worcester Police headquarters and interviewed. He will be arraigned on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at the Worcester County District Courthouse.

There will be no new additional information released at this time.
