Worcester, MA (November 2, 2017) - On November 2, 2017, two Worcester Police officers, working out of the Operations Division, were on routine patrol driving a fully marked police cruiser on May Street. At approximately 1:55 AM, the officers observed a Ford Fusion stopped past the stop line at the intersection of May Street and Park Avenue. The officers observed that the Ford was blocking the crosswalk. The officers activated their emergency lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop in front of 409 Park Avenue.
Officers approaching the vehicle noticed that the operator was reaching down towards his left side and had his hands concealed as they got to the driver’s window. The officers noticed that the driver was visibly nervous when asked for his license and registration. The driver’s behavior caused the officer’s to be concerned for their safety. At this time both men were asked to exit the vehicle.
A search of the two men for weapons provided negative results; however, Mr. Rivas possessed two cellphones and $3,926 dollars while Mr. Agosto possessed $229 dollars.
Officers checked the immediate area within the motor vehicle that would be reachable by the two men. The search produced tin foil that contained crack cocaine. Officers also discovered some cocaine on top of the center console that was in plain view.
Both men were placed under arrest. The driver was identified as Starlin Rivas, 27-years-old of 5 Jefferson Street, Worcester. The passenger was identified as Pete Agosto, 28-years-old of 62 Anita Drive, Fitchburg. Both men were charged with Possession of Class B Substance, and Possession of Class B Substance with the Intent to Distribute. Mr. Rivas was also issued a warning for the red light violation.
The suspects were arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
