Worcester, MA (April 10, 2017) - On Sunday, April 9, 2017 at approximately 5:45 PM, A Worcester Police officer was on Main Street near the YMCA when he heard a gunshot. The officer went to investigate the noise and began to drive behind the YMCA. The officer turned onto Ethan Allen Street and was flagged down by a male. The male informed the officer that he observed a fight between two groups of males in a nearby parking lot when a single shot was fired.
During the conversation the witness pointed out to the officer one of the victims involved in the fight. The officer approached the victim and had conversation with him. The victim, a 21-years-old Worcester resident, informed the officer that he and his 20-year-old friend were fighting with some males. During the fight he was pistol whipped by a male suspect. The victim was struck in the face with the handle of a gun when it suddenly discharged one round.
The group scattered when the gun went off.
The victim stated that the bullet grazed him but that he was unhurt. The victim refused medical treatment. The officer was told that the suspect was a Hispanic male with short hair, clean shaven and heavy set. It is believed that the suspect fled in a dark colored MV.
Officers searched the area for the suspect but had negative results.
There were no other reported injuries.
