Worcester, MA, October 5, 2017- On Thursday, October 5, 2017, members of the Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) were working in the Main South neighborhood. During the course of their patrol officers were conducting periodic checks of 1 Sycamore Street. The property is prominently displayed with No trespassing signs. This particular address has been problematic for some time with regard to trespassing, open air street level drug dealing, disorderly persons, squatting etc.
During the routine check, a supervisor for the NRT noticed that one of the vacant apartments has a missing front door. The officer looked into the apartment and observed a male, later identified as Samuel Torres, 38-years-old, huddled on the back corner of the main room. The officer ordered Mr. Torres to exit the apartment and meet the officer in the hallway. Although hesitant, Mr. Torres, looking very nervous, eventually complied.
A protective search for weapons located a firm object located in his back pocket. The object was removed and the officer discovered that the object in question was a pill bottle that contained 9 individual knotted plastic baggies of heroin. Mr. Torres was placed under arrest and charged with Trespassing and Possession of Class A Substance with the Intent to Distribute.
Additional officers arrived to assist. At this time several officers entered the vacant apartment. Officers observed the apartment to be full of trash and rotten food, needles, and clothing. Officers entered a rear bedroom door and discovered four people sleeping. All four were ordered out of the room. All four were searched. The group all had their shoes off while they were sleeping. Officers checked their shoes prior to handing them back. The last pair to be checked had a loaded .25 caliber handgun in it. The gun belonged to Tyrell Dudley, 29-years-old of 87 Murray Avenue. Mr. Dudley was placed under arrest and charged with Trespassing, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
The search of the four also produced a small knotted plastic bag that contained crack cocaine. The cocaine was found on Mr. Michael Ball, 28-years-old of 87 Murray Avenue. Mr. Ball was placed under arrest and charged with Trespassing, and Possession of Class B Substance.
All three men were arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse. The two women were released from the scene but will be summonsed to court for trespassing.
