Worcester, MA (November 16, 2012) - On Friday, November 16, 2012, Worcester Police responded to 39 William Street for a report of a man breaking into a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police saw a male, later identified as Joseph Daigle, rummaging through a car in the vicinity of 46 William Street. Mr. Daigle would not comply with commands to place his hands behind his back. He then became physically combative by punching the officer several times. At this time, another officer arrived on scene to assist. Mr. Daigle was eventually placed under arrest. He was in possession of several stolen items from two motor vehicles. The responding officer sustained a hand injury during the altercation. The officer was treated at a local hospital and was released.
Joseph Daigle, 31, of 10 Berkshire Street, Worcester was charged with two counts of Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle During the Night Time with Intent to Commit a Felony, Resisting Arrest and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. Mr. Daigle also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Mr. Daigle will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
