Fed, State and Local Officials on Scene for Suspicious Suitcase in Front of 120 Church Street

Worcester, MA (July 20, 2017) – On Thursday, July 20, 2017, at approximately 10:31 AM, Worcester Police responded to 120 Church Street, formerly known as Front Street, for a suspicious unattended package that was left out by the front right corner of the building.

The call came in from the Federal Building security personnel. Security discovered the item during routine checks. The suspicious item is a black hard covered suitcase of average size resting against a pillar on the right corner of the building.

As a precautionary measure the entire building was evacuated. Worcester Fire and EMS arrived on scene. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb squad was called to the scene. The bomb squad will x-ray the contents prior to disposal.

Officers at the scene have closed down the immediate area to pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic.

WPD investigators are also on the scene. Officers from the Operations Division are assisting officials from the building in the evacuation. Once members of the MSP Bomb Squad give the all clear signal, motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic will resume in the area.

At this time, please seek alternate routes if traveling in the downtown area.
