Detectives Working on a String of Shoplifting Incidents Make Arrest

Worcester, MA (April 5, 2017) - Worcester Police Detectives have been recently working on a case involving a string of shoplifting incidents involving two different CVS Stores, one located at 115 Stafford Street and the other at 400 Park Avenue. There have been 7 incidents that started on 02/28/2017 and lasting through 04/04/2017. The total amount of stolen merchandise taken throughout the time period was $1,345.34.

Each shoplifting incident was captured on store security cameras. Detectives working with CVS Loss Prevention personnel were able to quickly recognize that the same person was involved in all incidents within the time frame. Detectives sent out the suspect photographs throughout the police department in an effort to obtain an identity.

While going over recent arrest booking photographs, a detective came upon an April 2, 2017 photograph of a male. This male was arrested for shoplifting at Walgreens located at 320 Park Avenue. The booking picture matched the suspect. The male was identified as Juan Claudio, 31-years-old of 9 Quincy Street, Worcester.

Detectives presented photo arrays to store employees. Mr. Claudio was picked out of the array as the male that had committed the thefts.

On Wednesday, April 5, 2017 detectives began to search for the suspect. At approximately 12:00 PM detectives came in contact with Mr. Claudio standing at the corner of Main and Gardner Streets. Mr. Claudio was placed under arrest without incident and transported back to police headquarters for questioning.

As a result of the investigation, Mr. Claudio was charged with two Counts of Larceny over the Value of $250.00 and five Counts of Shoplifting.

Mr. Claudio will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
