On Monday, January 8, 2018, at approximately 2:38 AM, a Worcester Police officer on routine patrol was traveling south on Murray Avenue. At this time the officer was behind a 1999 Toyota and entered the license plate into the cruiser computer for a routine check of the registration status. The officer received a response that the vehicle owner had a suspended license. At this time the officer activated his emergency lights and signaled the vehicle to stop. The vehicle stopped in front of 84 Murray Avenue.
The officer approached the driver side of the Toyota. The officer made contact with the driver and asked for his name. The operator identified himself as Nathan Picard, 31-years-old of 260 Carpenter Road, Whitinsville, MA. Mr. Picard is the registered owner of the Toyota.
While speaking with the operator the officer noticed a male sitting in the back seat that was familiar to him. The officer noticed that the back seat passenger was attempting to conceal his left hand. The rear passenger was known to the officer as Marcus Torres, 38-years-old of 129 Heywood Street, Worcester. Mr. Torres was asked to exit the vehicle. A search of Mr. Torres produced three clear knotted glassine baggies of crack cocaine.
At this time the officer placed Mr. Torres under arrest and charged with Possession of Class B Substance with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Class B Substance.
Mr. Picard was placed under arrest for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. A search of the vehicle produced a pair of brass knuckles which was located in the center console. Mr. Picard was additionally charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
The drugs and weapon were confiscated as evidence. The Toyota was towed from the scene.
Both men will be arraigned today at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
