WPD Mourning the Loss of Officer Iggy Garcia

For Immediate Release: 9/6/2021 9:29 am

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Worcester Police Officer Ignacio “Iggy” Garcia, who passed away after his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Iggy was a 17-year veteran of the department.
He was an outstanding officer who cared deeply about Worcester, the city he grew up in. He made a tremendous impact on our neighborhoods through his work in the gang unit. Iggy was a role model for our youth and he worked tirelessly to bring opportunities to them as the Coordinator of our youth programs.

“I can’t recall a day when I didn’t see Iggy smiling,” said Chief Steven M. Sargent. “His friends and especially his family brought him a great amount of joy. I witnessed this first hand when I coached his son Dezi.”

Iggy leaves behind his wife, Shana and three children, Dezi, Lucia and Giuliana.

Our deepest condolences go out to Iggy’s entire family and friends. We ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
