On August 4th, 2018 at about 9 AM, a member of the Worcester Police Gang Unit was on patrol in the area of Lincoln St. The officer observed a vehicle driving toward him swerve over the double yellow line. The officer turned around and observed the vehicle make a lane change without signaling, and stopped the vehicle near Lincoln Square.
The officer recognized the operator as William Guivas, nineteen-years-old of 57 Fox St. He knew that Mr. Guivas did not have a license to operate a motor vehicle, and he confirmed this through the CJIS system. He placed Mr. Guivas under arrest. As he removed Mr. Guivas from the vehicle, the officer noticed a purple rubber handle in the door pocket of the driver’s door. The officer saw prongs on the edge of this item, which he recognized as an illegal “stun gun.” Massachusetts General Law has recently been amended to classify stun guns as firearms.
Mr. Guivas was charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Improper Storage of a Firearm. He will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
