On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at approximately 12:51 PM, Worcester Police responded to a serious two vehicle collision at the intersection of Ararat Street and North frontage Road. First arriving officers observed that a male in one of the vehicles was trapped. Worcester Fire personnel were able free the trapped male. The male was then stabilized at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Due to the serious nature of this incident, the Worcester Police Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to take charge of the investigation.
Investigators spoke with witnesses and mapped out the crash scene. Evidence was collected and the two vehicles were eventually towed from the scene and secured. As part of the investigation, both vehicles will have a complete mechanical inspection to determine if any deficiencies may have been a contributing factor leading up to the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Isuzu truck, was traveling north on North Frontage Road. The operator of the Isuzu was a 22-year-old male from Marlborough. The passenger was a 21-year old male that resides in Florida. At the same time a 2002 Toyota Tacoma was travelling west on Ararat Street. The operator of the Tacoma was a 45-year-old male that resides in Worcester. The two vehicles impacted in the intersection of Ararat Street and North Frontage Road. There are traffic control lights at this intersection and were operational at the time of the collision.
The operator of the Tacoma was the person injured. Investigators went to the hospital and learned that the male may have suffered some broken bones and a concussion. Investigators were unable to interview the male at the time due to the treatment that he was receiving. It appears that the injuries are non-life threatening.
The two males in the Isuzu were not hurt.
This investigation is in the early stages. There have been no citations issued at this time but may change as the investigation moves forward.
