On Friday January 18th at 8:25 AM, Worcester Police were dispatched with Worcester EMS and Worcester Fire to a serious four car crash at 420 Plantation St. Initial reports said that one person might be unconscious.
Upon arrival, officers saw a Ford Escape, Mercury Sable, Chrysler 200, and Toyota Rav 4 that had all been involved in a motor vehicle crash. One person was unconscious, but paramedics were able to help the person regain consciousness. Other people on scene were assessed for less serious injuries, and four people were transported to the hospital for treatment. The Accident Reconstruction unit was called in to investigate, and the Crime Scene Unit took pictures of the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows that the Ford Escape was travelling south on Plantation St when the driver suffered a medical issue and lost control of the vehicle. The same issue apparently caused the driver’s unconsciousness when the officers arrived. The Ford crossed the yellow line into the northbound lane and travelled for a considerable distance on the wrong side of the road. The Ford entered the intersection at Plantation St and Plantation Parkway, crossed the intersection and struck a Mercury Sable, which was stopped at the red light.
The Ford pushed the Mercury back, and then veered to the right and struck the Chrysler 200, which was stopped in a turn lane. The Ford continued to slide and struck the front end of a Toyota Rav 4. The vehicles were towed and the crash is currently under investigation.
