On September 16th at about 2:20 PM, Worcester Police were dispatched to the area of 582 West Boylston St for a report of a suspicious male. Officers were told that the male was trying to get an unwilling female into his vehicle. Officers arrived and saw a male identified as Jose Palau, thirty-seven-years-old of Worcester, waiting outside of 582 West Boylston St. When the officer approached him, Mr. Palau got extremely confrontational and aggressive with the officer. Mr. Palau made several inappropriate gestures and lewd comments to the officer. A juvenile female stepped out of the business to flag down officers, prompting Mr. Palau to say, “That’s my girl!”
As more officers arrived, they went into the business to speak with the caller, a juvenile female. The initial investigation led officers to believe that Mr. Palau saw the female get off the school bus near King Philip Road and begin to walk home. Mr. Palau followed the female and began aggressively calling her. The female became concerned and picked up the pace of her walking, but Mr. Palau approached her and tried to grab her. Mr. Palau walked up to a vehicle and told the victim to get in the vehicle with him. He continued trying to grab her and she continued to pull away from him. Mr. Palau kept telling the victim that her mother had sent him to pick her up. She ran into the business and waited for police to arrive.
The victim had never seen Mr. Palau before. He is charged with Attempted Kidnapping, Accosting Someone of the Opposite Sex, Assault, and a Lewd and Lascivious Act. He was placed under arrest and will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
