For Immediate Release: 2/2/2018 11:18 pm
On Friday, February 2, 2018, members of the WPD Vice Squad were in possession of a search warrant for 57 Fox Street, apartment #1. The target of the warrant was Luis Cruz, 27-years-old of the same address as the warrant.
The application of the warrant was the result of an involved drug investigation in which Mr. Cruz was distributing cocaine out of a barbershop that he was working. The barbershop is located at 260 Lincoln Street.
Prior to the execution of the warrant, members of the Vice Squad and the Gang Unit set up surveillance outside the Fox Street address and outside the barbershop. Members of the WPD Gang Unit assisted the vice squad in the surveillance and the execution of the warrant.
During surveillance, officers observed Mr. Cruz make several hand to hand drug transactions while working inside the business. At approximately 6:50 PM, members of the Gang Unit entered the business and placed Mr. Cruz under arrest without incident. After Mr. Cruz was placed under arrest, a search of him produced $762.00 in cash, 33 individual bags of crack cocaine and 34 bags of heroin. Mr. Cruz was transported back to his Fox Street apartment to be present when Vice officers execute the search warrant.
Officers entered the Fox Street apartment and encountered nine people within. A search of Mr. Cruz’s bedroom produced a clear plastic knotted bag of a white powder cutting agent, a razor blade, 3 digital scales, and a “fanny pack” that had a knotted plastic bag inside it that contained heroin.
A search of a second bedroom, belonging to 58-year-old Angel Cruz, produced 16 zip lock bags of marijuana, a digital scale, a security camera, and $390.00 in cash.
Luis Cruz was charged with Possession of Class A Substance (heroin) with the Intent to Distribute and Trafficking in Class B Substance (18-36 grams).
Angel Cruz was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Class D Substance (marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute.
Both men will be arraigned on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
