WPD detectives conducted a follow up investigation with regard to the alleged armed robbery of Ms. Antoinette Barnette, 26-years-old, of 60 Boylston Street, Worcester.
On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at approximately 8:17 AM, Ms. Barnette did call police and stated that she was robbed at gunpoint while parked in her vehicle on Charlton Street. Several officers did respond to the call. Ms. Barnette provided a detailed description of the event along with a detailed physical description of the two suspects and the vehicle and license plate that they were driving. With several officers on scene and in the immediate area, the suspects and the vehicle were eventually located.
Ms. Barnette did make a positive identification of the two suspects. The alleged suspects, Hector Santos and Ms. Toni Denio, were placed under arrest and charged with Armed Robbery. Mr. Santos also had two outstanding warrants in effect for Distribution of Class A Substance and for Breaking and Entering in the Day Time with the Intent to Commit a Felony, Larceny Over the Value of $250.00 and Malicious Destruction of Property Over the Value of $250.00.
Both Mr. Santos and Ms. Denio were transported to police headquarters for the booking process. Both were later taken to the Detective Bureau and interviewed. Both denied the armed robbery and stated that the three had met for the purpose of Ms. Barnette to purchase narcotics.
Investigators located and reviewed nearby security footage which supported the story that the two provided. Investigators determined that Ms. Barnette was not robbed as she reported earlier but was unhappy with the purchase as she felt she had been cheated.
The charge of Armed Robbery was dropped from Mr. Santos and Ms. Denio. Mr. Santos remained in police custody due to his outstanding warrants and transported to the courthouse for arraignment. Ms. Denio was subsequently released from police custody.
On Wednesday, April 04, 2018, detectives located Ms. Barnette at her home and placed her under arrest for False Report of a Crime, Misleading a Police Investigation and Threatened Use or Presence of Deadly Weapons.
Ms. Barnette was transported to Worcester County District Court later this afternoon and arraigned for the above charges.
