On Friday 3/2/18 after students were dismissed from school, the Worcester Police received word of a threat involving a possible shooting at South High School. At the time, the information was very vague and limited. Detectives investigated over the weekend, and attempted to track down the source of the information. After an extensive investigation, they focused on a fourteen-year-old student who attends South High.
In response to the intelligence received by police, the Worcester Police Department worked with school officials and city administrators to ensure the safety of the students. Several officers and city officials were present at South High on Monday.
Fellow students reported that the fourteen-year-old male had been involved in verbal conflicts with other students at the school, when he became upset and made threats to shoot students in the school. On Monday March 5th, detectives spoke with school administrators, who reported that the fourteen-year-old male admitted to them that he had made threats. At this point, the fourteen-year-old male was placed under arrest for False Report of a Firearm or Any Weapon Capable of Causing Damage. He will be arraigned in Worcester Juvenile Court.
