For Immediate Release: 2/28/2019 10:17 pm
On February 28th at about 11:40 AM, members of the Worcester Police Neighborhood Response Team were conducting surveillance in the area of Main and Oread Street. An officer’s attention was drawn to a male and a female, later identified as Sugeyn Vega, forty-two-years-old of 2 Tracy Place, and Miguel Romero, twenty-three-years-old of Worcester, aimlessly walking north and south on Main Street between King St and Oread Place. In the officers’ experience, it is common for street level narcotics dealers to aimlessly walk back and forth in this area.
Officers observed two males approach Mr. Romero and Ms. Vega. The males counted out several bills in their hands and passed them to Ms. Vega. Ms. Vega made a signal to Mr. Romero, who looked around, as if watching for police. Mr. Romero took something from his mouth and placed it in the palm of one of the buyers. Officers approached the buyers, and recovered what appeared to be crack cocaine. Mr. Romero and Ms. Vega were placed under arrest and charged with Distribution of a Class B Substance and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Laws. They will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
