On Tuesday February 26th, 2019 at about 1:52 PM, Worcester Police were dispatched to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident at 254 Southwest Cutoff. The Crash Reconstruction Team was immediately activated as well. A GMC Yukon was traveling westbound on Southwest Cutoff when it struck a large steel plate being carried by a front-end loader construction vehicle. The force of the crash sent the GMC into the eastbound travel lane.
The GMC was heavily damaged, and the operator had to be freed by mechanical means. The operator of the GMC, a 46-year-old Rutland man, was bleeding heavily and was treated by officers and paramedics on scene. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The operator of the construction vehicle was not injured. The crash is under investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
