On January 11th at about 8:30, a Worcester Police officer was flagged down for a report of a robbery that just occurred. An officer saw a male running toward Hermon St, and received word that the male might be armed with a firearm. Shortly after this, dispatch received a call for an armed robbery from Advanced Auto Parts at 30 Millbury St.
A description was broadcast of the suspect, and other officers located a male, later identified as Eric Rivera, forty-three-years-old of 19 King St, who matched the description. One of the victims of the robbery had followed the suspect, and was frantically waving to the officers and saying that Mr. Rivera was the robber. Officers told Mr. Rivera to get on the ground, and he refused. They asked him to show his hands and he refused. Fearing that he might have a weapon, they grabbed him by the arm, and he pulled away and began to struggle. After a brief struggle, Mr. Rivera was placed in handcuffs.
Officers spoke to the victims at the Advanced Auto Parts store. They said that a male had come in and demanded money with his hands in his pocket, as if he had a firearm. The male said that he had a gun and would shoot them. They identified Mr. Rivera as the male who robbed the store. Money was recovered from Mr. Rivera.
Mr. Rivera was charged with Armed Robbery and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
