The 2013 - 2014 Worcester Youth Council began their term on November 7, 2013. Highlights from this term thus far include volunteer events at the Festival of Lights and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, a presentation from the Worcester Division of Public Health and the HOPE Coalition regarding tobacco and the subsequent creation of a Public Service Announcement and an introduction to municipal government.
In addition to service projects and awareness campaigns, during their term the Worcester Youth Council will research three topics affecting Worcester's Youth and present to the Standing Committee on Youth, Parks and Recreation. This year the WYC's subcommittees are:
- The Education Subcommittee will focus on the drop-out rates and methods of prevention among high school students.
Youth Homelessness Subcommittee
- The Youth Homelessness Subcommittee will focus on the causes of youth homelessness and services available to homeless youth in Worcester.
Mental Health Subcommittee
- The Mental Health Subcommittee will focus on the prevalence of mental health disorder among youth in Worcester, stigma and the effect of mental illness on school and relationships.
