One is hard pressed to find another city of comparable size with a greater concentration of world-class colleges and universities. Worcester, with its population just over 182,000 and more than 36,000 students, is home to 10 colleges and universities (a half-dozen more in neighboring communities). The Colleges of Worcester Consortium represents thirteen member universities and colleges in the Greater Worcester area.
Worcester's higher education industry and the vast educated labor pool it produces are among the City's proudest assets. From the founding of the College of the Holy Cross in 1843 to the most recently opened Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Worcester offers students a wealth of learning opportunities.
