CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester’s Department of Health & Human Services is seeking qualified candidates for Veterans Agent for its Veterans Services Division. The Veterans Agent is responsible for the administration of municipal veterans’ benefits program, assisting veterans to access state and federal financial benefits, coordinating services with other partners, conducting veteran ceremonial duties and events, and preparing financial documentation and state required reports. The position oversees the Veterans’ Office staff and ensures the delivery of exemplary customer service, provides training, prepares and monitors the division’s budget, and acts as a liaison to boards and committees.

The ideal candidate shall possess a thorough knowledge of statutes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to veterans' benefits, public assistance programs, and an understanding of private social agencies and other community resources. Candidates must have effective management and supervisory skills; strong financial, organizational and problem solving skills; proficiency with the use of computers, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, social work, counseling, business/public administration, or related field
  • Veteran of a U.S. Military Service
  • Supervisory experience
  • Veteran benefit experience
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree social science, social work, counseling, business/public administration, or related field
  • Five years of related experience working with veterans and their dependents
  • Two years of management experience

SALARY RANGE: $63,999.63 - $97,696.55 annually, full-time
