The Worcester Police Department seeks qualified applicants for the position of Building Maintenance Supervisor to supervise building maintenance operations in the police headquarters facility and remote police substations to include the stables and any other facilities the department houses its police resources. The Worcester Police Department headquarters facility must not only support the work of our sworn and civilian personnel, but also be fully accessible to the public at all times. The headquarters facility accommodates a crime laboratory, a jailing facility, fueling operation, self-sustaining power generation plant, as well as a full service garage operation. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Support Services, responsibilities include, building and custodial management; snow and emergency operations; personnel management and financial operations management. This position manages craftsman and custodial personnel. On-call responsibilities are required as determined by the needs of the department. Must be able to report to work during inclement weather for snow removal operations. Work locations may vary to include substations, out buildings, stables or other police owned/operated facilities. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to and from these various locations are required.

The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite; basic knowledge of public procurement policy; and will have relevant education, training and experience in the principles and practices of facilities management and support services. The qualified candidate will have the ability to assign, train, supervise, and review the work of subordinates; ability to enforce building rules and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to work independently and as part of a team; physical ability to operate small engine equipment such as lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.; ability to lift and place items weighting up to 70lbs; and the ability to perform moderately heavy manual work. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal history investigation and background check, and must possess a valid and current MA Driver’s License and a driving record which proves responsible and lawful driving habits.


  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent;
  • Five (5) years of experience working in general construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression and alarm systems, boiler systems, roofs, hazardous materials, and/or digital controls;
  • Two (2) years of experience in custodial, repair, and/or maintenance work; OR,
    • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid and current motor vehicle operator’s license.


  • Associates degree in Construction Management or in a related field; or, equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience in the principles and practices of facilities management.
  • One (1) year of prior supervisory experience.

SALARY RANGE: $25.44- $33.92 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
