The Worcester Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Fire Apparatus Repairman. The successful candidate will perform basic to moderately difficult inspection, maintenance and repair of the Department’s fleet and equipment including, but not limited to, passenger cars, trucks, fire apparatus and fire related tools.” Perform emergency road service calls and respond to emergency incidents as directed. Use a variety of diagnostic equipment to determine problem source and ensure proper adjustments. Must be available in an on-call basis for nights and weekends as needed.
Operation and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy trucks.
Principles of diesel and gasoline engines, diagnostic equipment and hydraulics.
Basic computer programs, email and internet use.
Fundamentals of technological equipment necessary in the performance of duties.
Safety practices and procedures in a shop environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma and three years’ experience in performing light and heavy vehicular service and repair; Good communication skills.
Experience in the maintenance of diesel engines, heavy trucks and fire apparatus.
Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT).
