SYSTEMS ACCOUNTANT
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for Systems Accountant. This position is responsible for the performance of a range of administrative/accounting services in support of the Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P). The work consists of a variety of duties which generally follow established standardized operating practices, regulations, or guidelines. The sequence of work and/or the procedures followed vary according to the nature of the transaction and/or the information involved, or sought, in a particular situation.

The successful applicant will have knowledge of the common principles and practices of Accounting; familiarity with accounting/office/database software to track, monitor, and reconcile revenues and expenditures; computer proficiency, including Microsoft office Suite; advanced analytical skills; proficient business mathematical skills; proficient recordkeeping, organizational, and customer service skills; proficient written and verbal communication skills. Additional, the qualified candidate will have the ability to work independently or on a team; to interact effectively with disgruntled members of the public, program participants, and other department personnel; to perform/prioritize multiple tasks in a detailed and timely manner; to read and interpret pertinent laws and regulations; and to drive to off-site locations for time sensitive processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Three (3) of related work experience in an office environment performing financial processes or analysis
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with business systems used for processing payroll, accounts payable, inventory, and/or receipts
  • Experience generating and reviewing financial reconciliations
  • Experience generating monthly financial reports

SALARY RANGE: $55,559.74 - $ 72,653.44 annually, full-time
