Description

The City of Worcester Division of Public Health is looking for students to assist with COVID-19 contact tracing efforts. Students will be assigned to cases to assist the 7 municipalities and 11 regional colleges and may be assigned to perform contact tracing for a particular location or cluster of cases. Students will work remotely and will need access to a computer and phone. There may be opportunity to also work locally. All students will be required to do approximately 15 hours of web-based training on contact tracing and protocols. Students will also receive training on the case management system, MAVEN. "MAVEN" is the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiologic Network - a Public Health Information Network, compliant, secure web-based surveillance and case management system for infectious diseases that enables rapid, efficient communication among local and state health departments and laboratories. Additionally, students participating in the program must earn HIPPA Certification. 12 hours of training are mandatory prior to beginning this position.
This position can be done remotely. Hours may include evenings and weekends (approximately 16-32 hours weekly). This position will run from August 11 through December 11, 2020
Requirements:
o Must have computer and phone
o Must be willing to complete all training requirements
o Must Understand Isolation and Quarantine rules
o Must Understand Testing Criteria
o Must Understand Basic introduction and understanding into the standardized processes of Contact Interviewing and Contact Tracing
o Conducting Interviews
o Documentation of Interviews in MAVEN system
o Introduction to Daily Case Work Flow
o Response to Common Requests and Referral for Testing and Social Services
o Using Translation Services
Minimum Qualifications:
Current senior in an undergraduate for health sciences, nursing, pre-med, or behavioral health field, or enrollment in a graduate level program in nursing, medicine, public health, behavioral health, or a related field.
• Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
• Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress
• Ability to show empathy to distressed individuals
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to speak, read, and write English
• Second or multiple languages a plus
• Critical thinking and sound judgment required
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
• Proficiency with computer
COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. This experience can count as part of a practicum or applied practice experience requirements.
