ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
CITY OF WORCESTER

The Executive Office of Economic Development seeks applicants for the position of Staff Assistant II. The Staff Assistant II is responsible for providing analytical, administrative, and customer service support to the Administration Division and the Planning & Regulatory Services Division. The Staff Assistant II will be responsible for assisting customer walk-ins and answering the department’s main telephone line. Additionally, this position will complete departmental accounting and payroll tasks; will organize, track, and manage current and archival documents for land-use filings with the Planning & Regulatory Services both digitally and physically; and will also serve as the department’s records access officer, ensuring public records requests are fulfilled in a timely manner, sensitive information is redacted, and appropriate staff are notified. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in working in a fast-paced, professional and collaborative office setting, with the ability to meaningfully contribute to the development of the City of Worcester.

The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving skills; strong data management skills; excellent attention to detail; will have knowledge and experience providing excellent customer service; demonstrated computer proficiency; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency with records research methodology and searching records through use of online databases; will have prior payroll experience; and prior accounting/bookkeeping experience. The qualified applicant will have the ability to prepare reports; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to assist in preparing legal notices; ability to answer high volume phone calls; ability to address questions and customer concerns via telephone, email, and in-person, in a consistently professional and courteous manner; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with diverse populations, organizations, and interests.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, communications, legal studies, urban studies, liberal arts, or related discipline
• Three (3) years of customer service and clerical experience in an office setting
• Proficient with computers, including proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience conducting research, querying records, managing data, and/or process management
• Previous administrative experience in a public sector office setting
• Notary public

SALARY: $22.81 - $30.32 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
